W+K Studio — Japan Relief Print

W+K Studios designed this print to raise relief funds for the devastating earthquake and subsequent massive tsunami that struck Japan March 11, 2011. They are asking a donation of at least $25 for a print, with 100% of the profits going to the relief effort. They will of course accept and pass along a donation of any amount. Their W+K Tokyo office is currently deciding which NPO the funds will be going to.

One Man’s Trash is Another’s Art

Danish Modern&.Where is Newman? Kukec chopped drawers into triangles and piecing them back together as a "spillage of wood.

Artist Sinisa Kukec creates full installations by upcycling trash into artwork.  Kukec, who was initially trained as a potter, has turned to peoples throw-aways as material for his sculptures.  The pieces take on new shapes, and meanings, as he reassembles familiar objects into wholly new forms.

His amorphous sculptures criticize the art world while successfully defining themselves from their recycled components. Used wooden desks are split in two and forced back together at awkward angles and painted. Vintage frames surround laser lights shone through a found two-way mirror. Parking garage safety mirrors are arranged together as if peering down at epoxy coated Styrofoam balls below. Packing materials are fused with paint and epoxy and set upon an old desk chair, creating a crouching creature which looks to be made of expensive materials.

Beautiful typography and the line quality is lovely. Can’t wait till the project is done and all the mottoes are uploaded.  great little site that goes with it as well.  Definitely worth checking out.

Pocket Pencil

A simple, yet beautiful, way to always have your trusty tool with you.

It was here that I met Mr. Alex Hulme. A gentleman with an open mind, with whom I seemed to share a sense of aesthetic. This became even more evident when I had to leave and he grabbed his pencil from his chest pocket to exchange details. A beautiful piece of functional design that he himself had created.
